Restoration
Dentistry.
Restorative dentistry repairs teeth affected by decay, wear or damage. Typical treatments are fillings, crowns, inlays and onlays. The majority of dental treatments are restorative and aim to restore full function to teeth such that the teeth are also protected from damage. All our fillings are done using tooth coloured resins. Crowns are caps disgned to restore biting function and protect the tooth from further decay – made of porcelain fused to a metal plate or ceramic or (rarely, gold alloy). We always blend in the restoration to the adjacent teeth ensuring a natural looking outcome.
What to expect.
Assessment and provision of fillings or restorations.
For early stage caries, we are able to remineralise the enamel, achieving a pleasant and enjoyable visit, particularly important for young children. These restorations strengthen the tooth, protect remaining structure and reduce the risk of future fractures.

Why do I need a filling?
To restore a damaged tooth.
Are white fillings available?
Yes. We always aim to match the adjacent teeth so the outcome looks natural.
Does having a filling hurt?
Local anaesthetic is used where needed, and we make sure you are comfortable during the treatment.
How long do fillings last?
Varies by case – but in the vast majority of cases, fillings last at least 5-10 years. In case the original tooth structure is substantially damaged a filling may keep detaching, then either a crown or pin supported crown would be advised.
Can old fillings be replaced?
Yes, when appropriate. We routinely suggest replacing old amalgam fillings once they start to fail.
