Crowns &
Bridges.
Crowns protect teeth and Bridges replace missing teeth. Crowns are a way of capping a tooth so that it becomes like one whole tooth again – creating a new biting surface and spreading the force evenly onto the tooth underneath. Crowns can be made from many new materials and our dentists advise appropriately. Bridges are a linked arch of crowns anchored at each end. Designed to replace missing teeth, for a long time bridges were the only alternative to having dentures. As the name suggests, it rests on good teeth at each end and a long bridge may use remaining teeth for support along the span. Bridges help aesthetics and maintain good biting function without the inconvenience of removing dentures.

What is a crown?
A restoration that covers a tooth like a cap
What is a bridge?
A restoration replacing missing one or more teeth that is fixed to existing sound teeth or on implants.
How long do they last?
Depends on maintenance and biting force, however, crowns should last at least 10+ years, often much longer. Bridges are more susceptible to changes in dentition; they may last for 10+ years or they may need adjustments or change if the dentition around them changes.
Will they look natural?
Yes, modern materials are aesthetically pleasing and made to blend in with existing teeth shades.
Is a bridge better than a denture or an implant?
This is a question that can only be determined jointly with the dentist. There are clinical benefits, pros and cons to each type of treatment and price is a factor to consider between these three options. The trend currently is to use a mix of implants and bridges if budget allows.
