Teeth
Whitening
Professional whitening safely lightens the natural shade of teeth affected by staining and ageing. Over the years, our teeth take on a yellow shade, sometimes a grayish shade. This shade can become unattractive so people can choose to refresh their appearance by returning the enamel to a white shade. The treatment takes about 2-3 weeks in the UK to return to a 'B1' shade, which is the whitest natural looking shade. The degree of the shade can be decided as the treatment progresses. There are also some dentinal discolourations that show through the enamel resulting in darker teeth, often gray in colour. This discolouration takes longer (several months) to improve significantly and is more quickly treated by masking with veneers or composite bonding, where appropriate.

Good to know
A hygiene visit is beneficial before whitening. Most people are suitable for whitening as we offer only proven UK (and EU) approved chemicals. Some countries allow much stronger chemicals which whilst faster, pose a risk of burns to the gums, and are not approved for use in the UK. The process requires 2-3 visits over 3-4 weeks. Good gum health is needed for comfortable whitening.
A calm,
considered visit.
Is whitening safe?
Yes, when prescribed and overseen by a dental professional.
How long does it last?
Results vary from 6 months to several years. Diet and oral hygiene have an impact. However, it is easy to top-up with treatment at home.
Will I get sensitivity?
Our process includes desensitising gel so the chances of sensitivity are very low. Sometimes, temporary sensitivity can occur but usually settles quickly.
How white can teeth become?
Teeth can exceed B1 the whitest natural shade we recommend. In a typical span of 2-3 weeks, the final shade achieved depends on the starting shade and type of staining.
Is whitening the same as stain removal?
No. Hygienists can remove surface stains while whitening changes tooth shade.
