Veneers
Dentistry.
Veneers are thin coverings bonded to the front of teeth to improve shape, colour and symmetry. Veneers are excellent for masking defects, improving the shape and appearance of teeth and creating a pleasing looking alignment without actually moving the teeth. Veneers are made of porcelain or ceramics or composite resins (filling material) - each type has pros and cons, e.g. porcelain requires the tooth surface to be prepared for it and is then custom made to fit only that prepared tooth, whereas composite resins require the tooth only to be cleaned and dry before application meaning no tooth surface lose and easy repairs. Porcelains currently offer the most natural looking finish. The new resins we offer have remarkable reflection and translucency qualities.

What are veneers?
Thin coverings bonded or applied to the front of teeth.
How long do they last?
Longevity depends on material, maintenance and oral hygiene regime. Veneers are thin and so susceptible to chipping or debonding if chewing inappropriate food items or pencils. Repairs to composite bonding veneers are done simply and quickly, whereas porcelain veneers will need to be remade in a laboratory.
Do they damage teeth?
Treatment is planned conservatively, and there is no damage expect for porcelain veneers which require tooth surface preparation to allow proper shape seating and adhesion. Resin veneers do not require any invasive tooth preparation.
Composite or ceramic?
Depends on goals and clinical circumstances.
Are veneers right for me?
A consultation is required to determine suitability. Most people are suited to veneers, if waranted, but not all people. The biting action and occlusal forces play a key part in determining suitability.
